Located in the middle of Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller counties, Katy prides itself on offering a cozy small-town feel with all the conveniences of a modern big city. While the estimated population inside the official city limits (referred to by locals as Old Katy or Katy Proper) is officially listed at 19,216, the greater Katy area is larger than Pittsburgh and over 320,000 people call it home. Katy also houses several huge master-planned communities like Cinco Ranch, Cane Island, Elyson, and Firethorne. First settled in 1872, Katy grew larger thanks to its booming rice and gas industries and officially became a city in 1945.
Nowadays, Katy is proud to be a "Tree City" with plenty of greenery throughout the area. In addition to its beautiful scenery, it's home to several businesses large and small. It also has one of the highest-ranking school districts in the U.S. Katy welcomes both tourists and residents with an abundance of parks and places to learn about its rich history, as well as homes in many price ranges.
